The Sham Valley Trek, sometimes referred to as the “baby trek” of Ladakh, takes place in the stunning lower Ladakh valleys. It sticks out as the best option for novices and families looking for a hiking adventure. Reaching a peak elevation of 3,900 metres, this reasonably moderate walk presents a special chance to discover the Sham region, which is in the lower part of Ladakh and offers insights into the customs and way of life of the local people.
Trekkers may immerse themselves in Ladakhi villages and daily life throughout the year by staying at homestays along the route. The Sham Valley Trek is a more manageable option to the more strenuous 5-day Markha Valley Trek, enabling hikers to experience the stunning scenery and Ladakhi culture without the difficulties of higher altitudes. The characteristic scent of Ladakh hamlet life is revealed when the journey goes through the Sham region, one of the popular trekking destinations in Ladakh. One can also visit the largest and most well-known monastery in Ladakh, the Alchi Monastery, thanks to the hike.
The Sham Valley Trek offers a window into the past Kingdom of Shan and blends in perfectly with Ladakh’s historical and cultural landscape. Trekkers come across important Ladakhi monasteries along the way, including those in Alchi, Lamayuru, Phyang, Spituk, Hemis, Thikse, Shey, Likir, Ridzong, and Temisgang. The greatest elevation of the trek is 4,500 metres, so it’s a manageable and fun experience. Equipped with a camera, hikers record the breathtaking vistas and the lovely people they come across on their travels.
