The origin story of Madhyamaheshwar Temple is very interesting. It is said that during the war of Mahabharata Pandavas killed all their relatives for which they were feeling guilty. To atone for their sin of killing they wanted to please Lord Shiva with their devotion.

They did the same but Lord Shiva was not happy with the conduct of Pandavas and he did not want to forgive them easily. Hence, he decided not to meet them. He disguised himself in the form of Bull. His purpose was not to show his real form and also scare them off. So, he appeared in front of them in the form of a bull.

Bhima, one of the five Pandava brothers, recognized that the bull is not an ordinary creature and is a form of Lord Shiva. He chased the bull and started pulling the bull from backwards. The pull was so strong that the bull’s body was scattered into 5 parts which fell on different places. The places where all the 5 parts fell are considered as holy Panch Kedar Shrines. In Madhyamaheshwar Temple the navel of the bull fell.

Today Madhyamaheshwar Temple is renowned worldwide and devotees undertake Panch Kedar Yatra and visit here to get the divine wisdom of Lord Shiva.
